Novel Study: The Road to Winter by Mark Smith

Monday 3 April

Today we are going to continue with responding to some questions from chapter 1 of the novel. We will continue to make notes about each chapter using the document that is in your English folder.

You will have a choice of two questions from chapter 1 to respond to, using the SEX-Y paragraph structure in your answers.

LI: We are learning to respond to a question  from Chapter 1 using the SEX-Y paragraph structure.
SC: I can go back and actively re-read to locate specific information for my question
SC: I can use the SEX-Y structure in my written answer.
SC: I can make links to the wider issues that the novel raises in my paragraph.

We are considering the complex nature of human behaviour in the face of adversity.

Topic: Please put this piece of writing into your novel study folder.

" What personal attributes and behaviour are most important for survival in a time of crisis."

SEX-Y paragraph choices.

These choices area all centered around the information in Chapter 1 of the novel.
In your novel study folder,make a document called 'Responding to the Novel' and choose one of the questions to develop into a comprehensive paragraph answer using the SEX-Y structure. Make sure you include the question, the relevant chapter and the date, as we will add to this work as we continue to respond to various questions in each chapter.

1. Describe the relationship between Finn and Rowdy

2. Describe how Finn's dad showed an incredible amount of commonsense in helping his family.
